from an anon.
ive been swimming for 7 years (15 now) & i don’t really find swimming as fun as it used to be. i stopped cutting time during my 13-14, never went to swim meets much cause it became so depressing for me. ive thought about quitting the only reason why i don’t want is so i can have a sport on my high school resume. i don’t plan on college swimming but coaches have told me i have a lot of potential that i dont see at all. i take breaks, but end up missing swimming. i find myself dreading practice every single time. i really don’t know what im supposed to do because if i quit i know ill miss it, but i also want to swim because i want to, not just so i can get into a good college.
I actually know exactly how you feel. There are times when it just doesn’t seem worth it anymore, yet it’s all you’ve ever known. I think you’re just going through one of those bumps along the road. Maybe what you need is something to jump start that love for the sport again. Friends are gonna be a big part of it. If you don’t have many that can help you with this, then consider moving teams. Something new will always get you excited to get into it.
And if your coaches say you have potential, then you should definitely consider their thoughts. Oftentimes, coaches know more about you [swimming-wise] than you know about yourself.
I really hope this helps. Good luck with the rest of your swimming career :)
